Which Squarespace website plan should I choose?
First, let me justify my choices to use Squarespace with this post.
Now, let’s talk about what plan to choose when it’s time to subscribe. As of February 2023, these are the plans:
Don’t fall into the “MOST POPULAR” trap!
In the fine print, you’ll notice that for each transaction, Squarespace charges a 3% fee. That is on top of the fee that your payment processor (Stripe, paypal) will charge. For instance, for every sale:
Squarespace takes 3% + Stripe takes 2.9% = 5.9% off the top
Commerce Basic is the plan to use
Commerce Basic plan does NOT charge the 3% transaction fee which will help you save on every online sale. You will only pay the Stripe fee.
Example: Selling a $2900 painting online
To sell with Business plan would cost you $171.11
To sell with Commerce Basic plan would cost you $84.10
That one sale cost you an additional $87.01, when you could have just paid an extra $4 a month to be on the Commerce Basic plan.
Can you see now why Squarespace wants to lead you to the Business plan?!
