For those who are curious about what an artist consultant does, I thought I would share a bit about my current projects.
REMOTE CONSULTATION - VICTORIA-BASED ARTIST
I began work with an artist that I really admire, Lauren Mycroft, from Victoria. I have Mycroft's work in my own collection. I have begun a plan to assist Lauren in increasing her profile as a professional artist.
REMOTE CONSULTATION - VANCOUVER-BASED ARTIST
I began speaking with a Vancouver-based artist, and discussed how I felt I could assist her with direction and curation. I was happy to line this artist up for a thorough consultation in the coming weeks. This artist is seeing assistance with pricing, social media marketing, and curation.
ARTIST WEBSITE RE-VAMP
I love a website update project! This week I re-designed the website of a Toronto artist. I love working with Squarespace, and have built sites from large e-commerce sites to single page artist portfolios. This site needed a bit of a facelift, while retaining the content. I look forward to sharing when it is complete!
ASSISTANCE WITH REVIEWING GALLERY CONTRACTS
One regular client requested that I assist in discussing possibly joining a gallery roster at an American gallery. This caused us to address the artist's current pricing model, to ensure it could accommodate a gallery commission for sales. In addition, we discussed key questions to ask the gallery regarding their representation, sales and marketing plans.
ARTWORK CRITIQUES FOR ONGOING CLIENTS
Some of my regular clients request ongoing artwork critiques to ensure they are staying on the right track with their artwork. Many artists feel it is helpful to have an industry professional keep an eye on their progress and provide constructive criticism. My 'regulars' have me over for studio visits, send emails with images, or simply just text an image when the need for assistance strikes. We are easily able to create a comfortable and trusting critique environment.
